Scott Gordon Scientology Whistleblower
I have been following Scott’s Watchful Navigator blog for years and had connected with Scott Gordon, so I was very happy to see him tell his story with Emma. I have only just managed to watch the episodes, which are a fascinating and balanced and detailed view from the inside of Scientology.
Scott was part of the “OSA” aka the ‘Office of Special Affairs’ unlike many of the whistleblowers who have come from Sea Org, a core group of Scientology.
There is so much information in these episodes that it would take too long to summarise. I will just say watch the videos and read Emma’s accompanying shownotes.
It may be useful however if I explain first that an E meter is an electronic device for displaying the electrical activity in the skin of a human being. It can be used to tell when the individual is stressed or calm and thus it can be used for “auditing” a human being when the meter moves after questioning, and the reasons for that talked through with the auditors.
No doubt that short explanation is flawed but it will give you an idea, when auditing, e meters or dianetics is referred to. Used for good the device can be very helpful, used in a bad way bad consequences can follow. It can be used to control the mind as can the policies of the whole cult.
Scott knows a tremendous amount, and tells the stories in detail. They are well worth listening to if you want to learn about Scientology and how cults work. The cult of Scientology is a topic I’ve long been wanting to cover - especially amid the recent human trafficking allegations and missing person scandals involving Church of Scientology Leader, David Miscavige.
For those of you who have been following along, you’ve seen examples of cults hiding in obvious and non-obvious places. From NXIVM, to Stillpoint Zen Cult, to cults that hide in small towns, and cults within Masonic Lodges… cults are everywhere! And Scientology is no exception.
Scott’s story is absolutely riveting. He was trained in Scientology’s infamous intelligence bureau, the “OSA” aka the ‘Office of Special Affairs’ and became more of an ‘insider’ than most ground-level staff ever do. He has a blog called ‘Watchful Navigator” where he documents and whistle-blows his harrowing experiences in his years in the Church of Scientology and shares insider information on topics related to what he uncovered during and after his time in the Church of Scientology and since awakening to Scientology being a cult back in 2006.
This is an important topic and story because it shows how corruption can hide in plain sight and how if you mix enough truth and sprinkle in just enough lies, you can create a perfect great deception cocktail. It’s an important topic to be educated on because no one is exempt from being a potential victim - even you listening.
Not only does Scott carry the weight of his own story, but he’s also been helping to carry Christy Wood’s story as well - who is a David Miscavige and Scientology survivor. We’ll be covering that story as well on this podcast in a future episode. Scott is a hero in my eyes and I’m thrilled he is taking the time to be here with us to share his story and insider information.

Scott and Emma did another interview and this time Scott told the story of the death of Lisa McPherson, and this is the website he refers to http://lisamcpherson.org/. Then David Miscavige took over the top position of corporate scientology on the death of L. Ron Hubbard in 1986 and Scott details the releavance of that to the death of Lisa and to his own exit from Scientology.
